Landcomm: What if... Genre swap #2

For a challenge over at tv_universe, we were asked to revamp our favorite shows into another genre. I usually hate this sort of AU stuff, but I pulled it off for an old landcomm I belonged to when I made 24 into a western, so I thought I'd try it again. Here's my second one:

"See Jane. See Jane Con."
The Mentalist as a SitCom

Patrick Jane is a cunning and wildly successful conman until he witnesses a brutal crime. Forced into witness protection he is relocated in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Finding himself far from the life that he once knew, Jane needs to learn how to live a normal life -- and try to resist falling back into his old, bad habits.

Helping him with this is Teresa Lisbon. Teresa runs the local bookstore where Patrick finds employment. Teresa knows nothing of Patrick's true past, but is far to smart to fall for any of his games. Over time, though, he is slowly winning her over. However, Jane is unable to completely give up his past ways and he often finds himself in situations where his less than honest dealings are about to be discovered. It is only though quick (and hilarious) action that he manages to keep Teresa from finding out the truth about him.

The Rigsbys are Jane's next door neighbors. Grace and Wayne quickly fall under Jane's spell and become enthralled with his daring tales and quirky stories. Jane quickly convinces Grace that his is a psychic and she completely believes that he has the ability to foresee the future. Wayne, always wanting to be one who strikes it rich, happily follows Jane on all of his farfetched get-rich-quick plans. However, Grace and Wayne's inherent honesty and good-faith always manage to convince Jane not to let them come to harm and once again it takes quick (and hilarious) action to keep them from getting hurt.

Finally there is US Marshall Kimball Cho. Assigned to protect Jane and keep him from falling back into his old ways, Cho harbors a deep and abiding hatred of all things conman and would like nothing better than to find Jane breaking any of the many rules of his protection. Despite many close calls and Cho's certainty that Jane is up to something, he is always unable to prove that Jane is dirty. This leads Cho to more and more desperate (and hilarious) measures in order to try and catch Jane and get his protection revoked.

a quick (and hilarious) note
the RIGSBY'S!!!!!! finally and always.
Cho, can only be a cop... though he could make a good grumpy old man who tries to call the cops (maybe after he retires...)

I would watch the fuck out of that show!

Great idea! And of course Cho would be the straight-lace lawman! :))
